Zimbabwe will require at least three million set-top boxes (STB) to enable households to switch to digitalised content ahead of the global deadline of June 2015, the Information and Media Panel of Inquiry (IMPI) revealed.
Diring the IMPI meeting, the government has also been urged to impose stiffer penalties on piracy and protect artists, and to monitor the usage of funds collected by ZBC and the Zimbabwe Music Rights Association. Zimbabwe had earlier announced the need for USD 173 million to meet the migration deadline.
IMPI was established by the Information, Media and Broadcasting Services Ministry to assess the state of the media in Zimbabwe and make recommendations. IMPI will embark on a study tour of Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia and South Africa next week.
