Telecom Egypt (TE) and Etisalat Misr have inked two deals for mobile and fixed telecommunications interconnection.
The deals will be mainly on how much it costs to transfer calls between fixed-line and mobile networks and also enable Etisalat Misr to use the telecommunications infrastructure of Telecom Egypt.
Telecom Egypt said that the first arrangement represents an improvement of the interconnection regulation offered by the company.
For the first time, Etisalat Misr will ink a long-term collaboration with Telecom Egypt that comprises of an annual commitment to use the latter’s telecommunications infrastructure. Etisalat Misr will continue to offer mobile telecommunications services to its local market customers.
The company said the collaboration will extend for three and a half years, with a total value of EGP 2bn.
The Managing Director and CEO at Telecom Egypt, Adel Hamed, expressed that his company has made important and successful investments in its infrastructure, to cope with the large, ongoing increase in Egypt’s data usage rates.
On the hand, the CEO of Etisalat Misr, Hazem Metwally, said, “The development of events across the world makes telecommunications companies eager to cope with the required changes and, during the next stage, agreements like the ones we have signed today will be reflected in the products and services that we will offer our customers for the first time in the Egyptian market.”
