Tanzania spends USD 200 million to enhance digital broadcasting

The Tanzanian government has invested USD 200 million to improve the Fiber Optic Cable in order to boost digital terrestrial broadcasting across the country, revealed Makame Mbarawa, Communications, Science and Technology Minister.

He further added that since Tanzania shifted from analogue to digital broadcasting in 2012, the broadcasting sector has not performed very well by utilising fiber optic cable in broadcasting compared to the telecommunications sector.

Tanzania has managed to switch off about 95% of its analogue transmitters country wide. While 20 towns have been digitalised, by March next year the country aims to digitalise the remaining five towns as well.
