Sundance TV introduces first short film competition in MENA

Following last year’s successful South Africa edition, Sundance TV has announced its first ever SundanceTV Shorts competition in the MENA region. This year’s winning entrant and three runners-up will have their films aired on SundanceTV later in the year.

The Executive Vice President, Programming and Marketing of AMC Networks International, Harold Gronenthal, commented, ‘’The SundanceTV Shorts competition embodies the true spirit of the channel itself. It provides a platform for independent storytelling, and shines a spotlight on new and emerging talent.’’

The Prize for the 2020 SundanceTV Shorts Competition will be decided based on different criteria like creativity, entertainment value, original storytelling and production values. The winners will be announced in November, and their films will be aired on SundanceTV via beIN channel 75 across the region, later in the year. The jury will be Gronenthal and additional jurors, whose names along with competition prizes will be announced shortly.

Producers or directors can submit their participation to the 2020 SundanceTV Shorts competition from 4 August to 18 October. They must provide proof of residence in the MENA region to enter their productions. Films should be no longer than 15 minutes, and must be delivered with English subtitles if English is not the spoken language. Entries must meet SundanceTV’s official rules and technical requirements, available on the website.

Dedicated to founder Robert Redford’s mission to celebrate creativity, SundanceTV is the television destination for independent-minded viewers seeking something different.
