Rafiki, new Kenyan film will air on Showmax. Rafiki tells the story of Kena and Ziki who live two very different lives in Nairobi and will be release during Pride month.
Produced by South Africa’s Big World Cinema and written by Jenna Cato Bass became the first Kenyan film to compete at Cannes. The director, Wanuri Kahui was drawn to the story of Rafiki because of the shortage of African Love stories on screen.
“My hope is that the film is viewed as an ode to love, whose course is never smooth, and as a message of love and support to the ones among us who are asked to choose between love and safety,” says Wanuri.
