Showmax announced on Twitter on September 2 the release of the documentary Doin’ My Drug on their platform. The documentary tells the story of Thomas Buttenschon, singer and songwriter born with HIV in 1985, and his crusade to use his music to wipe out AIDS in his native Zambia and beyond.
Born in Zambia to a Zambian mother and Danish father, Thomas Buttenschøn was diagnosed HIV-positive as an infant. The documentary follows Buttenschon’s heritage story as he goes back to the country where his mother is from in order to find out about his heritage.
Thomas Buttenschon said that the documentary was shot over two-and-a-half years, he wanted to prove tha tHIV/Aids is not a death sentence. Buttenschon added: “I have two healthy children. I am healthy. I have a healthy wife. I cannot infect them because I am properly medicated. It is obvious to everyone that if all the infected were well medicated, like me, we would be able to eradicate HIV”.
