The BBC has just announced the appointment of Pierre Cloete as commercial director of the group for sub-Saharan Africa. The new British brand program manager for the region was the last managing director of Kwesé General Entertainment.
He was responsible for launching the pay TV service Kwesé TV. Most recently, he was Kwesé Sports’ Director of Digital Content and Acting CEO of Kwesé Sports.
Pierre Cloete worked for two years as head of television and media for sub-Saharan Africa at Ericsson South Africa, and also spent nearly a decade at M-Net. His appointment follows the departure of Joel Churcher, the former director of BBC services for Africa.
The BBC has also appointed a new Commercial Director for Eastern Europe. This is Zbigniew Pruski.
According to Louise La Grange, Senior Vice President of Commercial Services at the BBC, “these appointments reflect the BBC’s continued commitment to the African and Central and Eastern European markets as well as a continued local presence on the ground.”
