Zulu TV, a new television station focusing on content specific to Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) province in South Africa, has been launched by music and theatre actor, Mbongeni Ngema. Ngema has been working on the project for five years with his company Committed Artists Records and Films.
The entertainment channel aims to screen high-quality programmes in high definition, with a strong emphasis on local production. Ngema is aiming to harbour local talent and says KZN needs to encourage and build more production houses. “Very little local content comes out of KZN and although there is a lot of talent in this province, budding artists are all flocking out,” he said.
The FTA Zulu TV platform will also carry English programmes, SABC’s three channels and its news channel, and will reach communities in Mozambique, Ghana, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Botswana and the rest of sub-Saharan Africa.
