Iran to launch Azerbaijani TV channel

Iranian state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) plans to open a 24-hour Azerbaijani language TV channel which will broadcast television series, cartoons, and documentaries produced in Azerbaijan.

“The TV channel will mainly cover the cooperation and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Iran and will serve towards the strengthening of cultural relations, and development of the Azerbaijani language among Iran’s Azerbaijani population,” said Ezzatollah Zarghami, Head of IRIB.

Iran intends to utilise the capabilities of Azerbaijan’s Azerspace-1 satellite. In July, both the countries had also negotiated the regulation of radio-frequency spectrum of TV and radio broadcasting.
