The revolutionary step to switch off analogue in Nigeria by June 2017 is on since April 30. 30 million household need to be satisfied. 13 companies licensed to provide the boxes and every single STB needs to be equipped with Inview Software. For now, 200,000 setup boxes have already been distributed free to residents of Jos.
The UK based digital technology innovator has been appointed as technical and operational advisors to the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
“We are very proud to announce that we have officially launched in Nigeria. This is a very important and historic moment for Nigeria and Inview. We look forward to continuing to assist the NBC with digital switchover throughout the country” said Nick Markham, Chairman of Inview Technology.
Inview’s lightweight software, Liberator is globally deployed across Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Inview specialises in analogue switch off and wide scale legacy set-top box upgrades, in addition to new pay TV products. Its wide range of broadcast and OTT services provides a high end user experience on a low cost platform and enables operators to better monetise content.
Inview’s software, integrated on all of the set-top boxes for Nigeria, will provide the viewer with an EPG and information services in addition to 15 channels in digital quality picture and sound. These services will broadcast news articles to a new mass market audience from two Nigerian broadcasters, TVC News and Channels TV, along with articles from the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Plateau State government and the NBC. There will also be a suite of ‘Free TV’ banner advertisements and full screen messages.
