In Ivory Coast, Xavier Niel, the boss of Free, could launch a Pay-TV service before the end of the year. The French operator was supposed to obtain, in early June, a license from the High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication (HACA) to create a bouquet of pay TV channels. To recall, Xavier Niel was personally expected, in December, in Abidjan to advance this issue.
The French businessman would like to take advantage of the recent policy of liberalization of the audiovisual space launched in Côte d’Ivoire. According to preliminary information, its new service would be called “Free Côte d’Ivoire”, and would include the Qatari BeIN Sports channel.
If Xavier Niel’s company decided to extend its Pay-TV offer to all French-speaking Africa, there would be an extraordinary battle in which the big winners would undoubtedly be potential subscribers.
