Etisalat has claimed Dubai’s metro station was the first 5G-compatible metro in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Metro users can expect speeds of more than 1 Gbps and faster response time with less than a millisecond latency, the operator said. 20 times faster than 4G and with ultra-low latency, 5G technology allows users to stream videos in 4k resolution live, with virtually no lag, and users will be able to enjoy AR / VR services, games in the cloud from anywhere in the UAE, robotics and instant portable technology connectivity, said Etisalat.
The arrival of 5G in this Dubai metro follows Etisalat’s launch of the first 5G wireless commercial network in May 2018 in the United Arab Emirates, making it the first telecommunications operator in the MENA region to achieve this goal. Other important milestones include the 5G offer at the 2019 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the recent achievement of a download speed of more than 3.1 Gdps on the 5G Stand Alone (SA) network. Etisalat.
Etisalat also announced in June that it has become the first mobile operator in the MENA region to provide 5G coverage inside an international airport.
