NewzRoom Afrika, the first news channel to be directly owned by black Africans has officially been aired live on pay television DStv on Thursday 02 May 2019. The 24-hour news channel is owned by media personalities Thabile Ngwato and Thokozani Nkosi.
Newzroom Afrika, which is available on DSTV channel 405, aired its first news bulletin at 5.30pm, with previous eNCA presenter Cathy Mohlahlana taking the reins alongside sports presenter Marc Lewis.
The government was among those that welcomed the launch of the new channel.
“Government wishes #NewzroomAfrika all of the best in its endeavor. The introduction of the channel will further shape public discourse,” stated the Government Communications and Information Systems on its official Twitter page.
The channel boasts a wealth of experienced journalists and editors, including some who were part of ANN7, which closed last year.
The channel will air on DStv channel 405 and all subscribers to DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, Access and Easyview will be able to view the channel. Newzroom Afrika will also be available by streaming on smartphone, tablet or desktop.
