The Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) has announced that the government will shut down analogue TV transmitters by December 2014 as part of the digital migration roll out.
“By December 31, 2014 Uganda should have achieved footprints of digital migration. The purpose is to mitigate any challenges that may arise before June 2015 which is the recommended deadline globally,” said Godfrey Mutabazi, executive director of UCC.
Speaking at a digital migration workshop in Mukono yesterday, Mutabazi urged all stakeholders to support the process. In November 2013, Uganda’s parliament committee on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) had questioned the UCC and Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) about the delay in the country’s digital migration process.
