The Dating Game hit format returns to screens across Africa on Sony Pictures Television

Following the continued success of the classic hit format The Dating Game around the world, Sony Pictures Television (SPT) announced today that it has secured the first ever commission of The Dating Game in Africa, bringing the successful format to EbonyLife Ltd in Nigeria. EbonyLife Ltd plan to produce the African adaptation of the iconic dating show this spring ahead of the planned premiere later this year.

The hit dating format has experienced a successful revival, returning to multiple markets including Australia’s Network Ten who have recently commissioned the format, locally titled as Blind Date. The deal see’s the classic dating game return to Australian audiences after a sixteen-year hiatus. The highly anticipated series will be produced by SPT backed Playmaker Media for transmission later this year.

The revamped The Dating Game has also continued to perform well in Europe.  The show, also called Blind Date, successfully returned to British screens last year with host Paul O’Grady.  Airing on Channel 5, the UK series is produced by So Television and SPT’s Stellify Media and was recently recommissioned for a second season.

Finland’s local adaptation Napakymppi, has also proved to be a hit for Nelonen, quickly becoming the broadcasters second most viewed show across its channel after returning for season two in the New Year. Dutch RTL has also enjoyed success with Op Goed Geluk airing earlier this year after after its revival after twenty-six-years.

The Dating Game, distributed internationally by SPT, gives hopeful singletons the chance to find true love behind the iconic sliding wall. The format has aired in over 25 countries and remains one of the the leading dating shows of all time, successfully bringing countless couples together around the world.
