The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) granted an operating license to TelOne, a telecommunications operator, to create a video-on-demand (VoD) service. The agreement was announced by the regulator on the 11th of May.
With 105,000 Internet subscribers (in fiber and ADSL), TelOne hopes that its service will quickly adjust into the consumption habits of audiovisual content in Zimbabwe. In order to attain this aim, the operator will certainly invest for the improvement of its infrastructure and especially its flow, which is not suitable, to make the VoD.
While Kwesé TV was licensed a few days ago, TelOne’s accreditation confirms the announced intention of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa to open the local audiovisual market to competition.
