Spain’s Chello Multicanal has launched its documentary and nature channel, Natura, on South African pay-DTH operator, StarSat, and plans to offer the channel across Sub-Saharan Africa in future.“The StarSat launch represents the start of the channels roll out across the region in 2014,” said Jonathan Nickell, COO of 3Vision Distribution, the firm which is distributing the channel.
StarSat will also add Fox Movies as a standard definition (SD) TV channel from February 15. Fox International Channels (FIC) already provides Fox and FoxCrime to StarSat along with TV channels such as FX and FUEL.
StarSat is the re-branded TopTV service, now operated by Chinese company StarTimes Media. South African pay-DTH operator, On Digital Media (ODM), has applied to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa to transfer its ownership license of StarSat to StarTimes, which is financing a bailout of the near-bankrupt ODM.
