The local streaming service, Showmax has declared that it will be adding two acclaimed South African films to its content offering.

This year’s Oscar-shortlisted drama Inxeba (The Wound) and the African Movie Academy Awards’ Best Film of 2018, Five Fingers for Marseilles will soon be available to movie fans on Showmax.

Inxeba, produced by John Trengove, discloses the story of Xolani. Xolani joins the other men of his community on a journey to the mountains to initiate a group of teenagers into manhood. His entire existence starts to unravel when a defiant initiate from the city discovers his best-kept secret, a forbidden love.

Inxeba is one of the most acclaimed South African movies of the last 10 years. Local cinemas were required to cancel screenings after death threats and protests about its portrayal of the secret Xhosa initiation ritual.

Five Fingers for Marseilles, produced by Michael Matthews, recalls the story of the young “Five Fingers” who twenty years ago fought for the rural town of Marseilles against brutal police oppression.
