Samsung Smart TV users can now access video news on demand via a purpose-built eNCA Smart TV app. Samsung Electronics South Africa has partnered with African news provider, eNCA to bring the latest news features on eNCA website. According to Samsung, the news inserts on the app complement those found on the eNCA Web site, and the app’s emphasis is on video stories supported by minimal text.
“We are excited to launch South Africa’s first video-rich TV news app. With progressively more connected technologies available in the market, consumers can access content across a variety of mediums. Our partnership with eNCA gives Samsung Smart TV owners a new way to consume news. The app means they can actively select the stories they want to learn more about, at their convenience,” said Matthew Thackrah, deputy MD and head of consumer electronics at Samsung Electronics South Africa.
Thackrah further explained that the new app has a news ticker option which provides news headlines at the bottom of the screen meaning that users can enjoy their regular viewing while being up to date with the latest news headlines.
In related news, eNCA form part of Seardel Investment Corporation which is a media group owned by JSE-listed Hosken Consolidated Investments Limited (HCI). The group grew out of the success of e.tv, South Africa’s first and only private commercial free-to-air television channel, which was launched in 1998. The channel e.tv is broadcasted in 49 countries and has launched South Africa’s first free satellite TV service OpenView HD in 2013.
