SACF asks DoC to reissue STB manufacturing tender

South African Communications Forum (SACF) has accused the Department of Communications (DoC) of allowing a key contract for he manufacture of subsidised STBs to expire thereby delaying the digital migration process.

SACF chief executive officer (CEO), Loren Braithwaite-Kabosha, said that the DoC has repeatedly extended the tender deadline due to the court case over the decision to appoint state-owned signal distributor, Sentech, to handle the STB control system.

SAFC has asked the lapsed contract to be reissued by the government. The delay will lead the government to miss the April 1, 2014, digital switch-on date and push the migration to June or July.
