South African data-only operator Rain has rolled out a 5G network package with unlimited high-speed data for 1,000 rand ($67) a month.
According to the CEO of Rain, Willem Roos, the services is available in cities of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Pretoria but will soon be extended to Cape Town, Durban and other major metros in 2019 and 2020.
On the other hand, the CMO of Rain, Khaya Dlanga said that the company has achieved speeds of 700Mbps during testing, but the typical client will see speeds around 200Mbps. Rain is advertising “up to 700Mbps” on its website.
Rain, formerly Wireless Business Solutions, is already offering a 4G network, for which it charges 250 rand ($17) a month for unlimited access during 19 hours of the day and 50 rand ($3.36) per gigabyte during the five peak hours.
The company includes a Huawei home router for its 5G service.
