German technology company, Rohde & Schwarz, will upgrade the broadcast network of Qatar Media Corporation (QMC) with DVB-T2 technology with plans to go on air before the end of the year..
Rohde & Schwarz has been commissioned to integrate, test and put the necessary broadcasting technology into operation by Salam Media Cast, the main contractor for the project. The order includes delivery of new UHF transmitters to the Qatari state broadcaster and the upgrade of existing transmitters to support DVB-T2.
In addition, a new transmitter site for FM and DAB transmissions will also be built. The Munich-based company will also integrate a fibre-optic backbone which will link the radio and TV broadcasting centres to the different transmitter sites.
