PBS Sports launched to compete with BEIN Sports

Saudi-Arabia, in partnership with Egypt is launching its own TV network, PBS Sports, to bring down the Qatari monopoly of the entertainment television, BEIN Sports. PBS Sports groups will launch 11 channels and will be broadcasted in the region and internationally. Available on Nilesat, PBS Sport would not be encrypted and will be available for free.

Muflih al-Hafatah, the President of Saudi Media City stated that one of the channels will be launched as part of the promotional campaign for the network and five more channels will be available at the beginning of the sports season. He also added that the number of channels will gradually increase to 11.

To recall, BeIN sports holds rights for the 2018 and 2022 World cup, Asian Cup of Nations, the Champions League amongst others. In order to end this monopoly, the Saudi-Egyptian partnership would need to acquire the rights for future seasons. However, the group promise to broadcast the Football World Cup of 2018 and 2022, and the European, Asian and African cup as well as the Champion League of Europe.
