ODM fined for airing adult content without permission

South African pay-DTH operator, On Digital Media (ODM), has been fined ZAR 25,000 (USD 2,068) for broadcasting its adult channels for almost a month without the approval from Independent Communications Authority of SA’s (ICASA). The BCCSA tribunal ordered ODM to pay the fine by June 30.

The matter came to light after South African group, the Justice Alliance of SA (JASA), complained about broadcast of the channels during the watershed period despite the Western Cape High Court setting aside ICASA’s decision to approve the broadcasts.

StarSat, had approached the South Africa’s Supreme Court of Appeal after the Western High Court ruled against the broadcast of adult content in November last year.
