Zimbabwe-based telecommunications firm, NetOne Cellular (NetOne), has applied for a national datacasting licence. According to the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (Baz), NetOne has applied for one of ten datacasting licences offered by the regulator.
NetOne aims to increase its subscriber base to three million by December but it requires a strategic investor to inject over USD 570 million to expand its network, as per a report.
Datacasting is the broadcasting of data over a wide area via radio waves. It refers to supplemental information sent by television stations along with digital television and it also applies to digital signals on analogue TV or radio.
