My Kitchen Rules SA’s reality show on M-Net

The first local season of My Kitchen Rules South Africa, which aired on M-Net is quite a peculiar type of reality TV show. The show is closely similar to BBC South Africa’s popular Come Dine With Me South Africa, except that here its couples instead of individuals taking turns to host each other.

The judges hosting the show are David Higgs known for his Simon Cowell-ish judging tendencies and J’Something who is more the smiley faced judge. The choice of judges hit the real balance for the good cop/bad cop duo. The first episode, filmed in Bloemfontein, showed the ‘Bloem Besties’, Liz and Leanne as first contestants. The reality drama portrays excellent panoramic drone shots. The first episode also showed the five couples who would be fighting for the best hosts title.

Just like in Come Dine With Me SA the contestants all get an amount of money and have create their own menus. In My Kitchen Rules SA however, they have to come up with a name for their “pop-up restaurant” and decorate accordingly.

For the coming weeks the first five pairs of contestants have to create instant restaurants in their homes where their food is scored by the other contestants as well as the two judges.
