MENA targeted as major potential for production by BBC Worldwide

The major commercial arm of BBC, the BBC Worldwide, is targeting the Middle East North African regions as a great potential for monetisation of content and is planning to expand its production in the area. This decision, actually following the launch of BBC First channel on OSN in the MENA region earlier in August.

Natasha Hussain, the General Manager and Vice President Middle East and Mediterranean, at BBC Worldwide, spoke to Digital Studio: “Feedback about BBC First channel on OSN had been positive […] I think that comes from the level of research that the team has done back in London… exploring what audiences want and programming it specifically for the region”.

She further added that: “Dancing with the Stars is on TV in Lebanon and has been very successful and is produced here [Middle East]. We have strong relationships with a lot of production companies across the region and that is something that I am really keen on our team developing as a long term strategy”.

“The BBC’s side and scale combined with the diversity of the MENA region also presented opportunities […] Our investment is only ramping up”, she also said.
