Liquid Telecom to offer triple-play in Kenya

African fibre-optic company, Liquid Telecom, is currently testing its IPTV service, Ipidi, in Nairobi, Kenya, and will launch with subscription VOD, voice and internet services by March 2014. The Liquid service will be a direct competition to Wananchi Online-owned Zuku, which has dominated the triple play service space in Kenya.

“It is going to be a similar triple-play service as you [already] have in Kenya. The sourcing for content is already done,” said Shahab Meshki, group head for customer account and service management at Liquid Telecom.  The company plans to launch with FTA IPTV channels, and will partner with MultiChoice pay-TV platform, DStv, to offer premium channels at a later date.

Meshki says Ipidi will also be rolled out in Harare, Zimbabwe, through local internet service company, Zimbabwe Online. In Harare, the IPTV service has been bolstered by the rollout of  fibre to the home.
