Over two million set-top boxes (STBs) have so far been sold in Nairobi and its environs, as Kenya inches towards December 31 digital television migration deadline.
“There is a huge number of people who actually migrated to digital framework long time ago because they bought the pay-TV set-top boxes through MultiChoice and others,” said Fred Matiang’I, ICT Cabinet Secretary.
The three phased analogue switch-off will begin with Nairobi and its environs on December 31, 2014. The second phase will cover Mombasa, Malindi, Nyeri, Meru, Kisumu, Webuye, Kakamega, Kisii, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyahururu, Machakos, Narok and Loldiani (Rongai) will be switched off on February 2, 2015. The third phase will cover all other remaining sites from March 30, 2015.
