Kenya ready for digital switch on Dec 31

Nairobi has enough digital set-top boxes to successfully undertake digital switch on December 31 with more than 1.5 million set top boxes available to cater to an estimated 1.26 million households, announced Fred Matiang’I, Cabinet Secretary of ICT.

He further added that over 126 digital TV broadcasting content providers have been temporarily licensed and 26 free-to-air channels are now active on the digital platform.

After Nairobi, the second phase In Kenya will begin in February in Mombasa, Malindi, Nyeri, Meru, Kisumu, Webuye, Kakamega, Kisii, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nyahururu, Narok and Rongai, while the final phase will be on March 30, 2015.
