Kenya orders analogue, digital TV to operate together

The Kenyan Supreme Court ordered the analogue and digital TV platforms to run concurrently for the time being enabling Kenyan broadcasters Nation Media Group (NMG), Royal Media Services (RMS) and Standard Group (SG) to legally broadcast on analogue frequencies.

The decision came after Kenya’s digital migration deadline of December 31 was suspended after an application by the Media Owners Association protested that the switch-off deadline for analogue broadcasts was too early to lay out the necessary infrastructure.

The two-judge Bench also ordered the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to let the three broadcasters carry their content on the analogue platform until their application to extend the switch off date is heard.
