Kenya DTT switchover postponed by a week

Kenyan Court of Appeal has extended the date of the country’s DTT switchover to Monday next week to allow lawyers acting on behalf of three analogue broadcaster to make more submissions ahead of a decision.

The analogue switch off was scheduled to take effect on December 26 in Nairobi, but was suspended for 45 days after Royal Media Services, Nation Media Group and Standard Group approached the court in November and alleged that CCK had discriminated against them and blocked them out from the digital migration process.

“The broadcasters should be given digital broadcasting licenses to transmit their own programs as opposed to being forced to surrender their content to Signet Company for distribution,” said Paul Muite, a lawyer representing the broadcasters.
