Kanal D to air Turkish dramas in Africa

Kanal D keeps increasing its presence in Africa. Following the success of Love, which aired on Ghana on TV3 earlier this year, Kanal D decided to further provide the African viewers with more shows from Turkey. TV3 is to air the thriller ‘Secrets’ and ‘Fatmagul’ is to be picked up by Kenya Citizen TV.

Kanal D took Africa by storm earlier this year with the licensing of Love to TV3 in Ghana and now it plans to continue the same success rate with another hit production, in Ghana and Kenya.  Secrets is an 18 episodes production that tells the story of Kemal and Leyla, a successful couple who appear to have it all. But with a series of unexpected events and the kidnapping of their son, the portrait of this beautiful family is destroyed in a single night.

Fatmagül has received wide success internationally, especially in Latin America, where it opened the doors for what became the Turkish content boom. The show was also increasingly popular in Arabic speaking countries, where it became the one of the most popular Turkish series of all times. Fatmagül tells the story of Fatmagül, a woman whose life is destroyed after she’s raped by four wealthy men prior to her wedding. Dumped by her fiancé and on the verge of a scandal, Fatmagül is forced to marry one of her attackers, who claims he did not rape her. Unluckily, she was unconscious during all of it, so the truth might never come out.

Citizen TV, Kenya’s leading tv station, has recently licensed one of Turkey’s award winning and best-selling titles: Fatmagül, becoming the first Kenyan broadcaster to introduce a Turkish drama to its audience.
