A new culinary show is coming to VIA, the Afrikaans lifestyle channel in South Africa. Jan is a show hosted by the Michelin-star chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen will get DStv viewers to watch how he merges French and South African cuisine in his restaurant, JAN, in Nice, France.
The show will air its first episode on Tuesday 24 October on VIA (DStv 147) and will also be available on Showmax. Jan episodes will be in Afrikaans, English, French and Italian but will have English subtitles. The show will give viewers a sneak peek into the life of a creative artist and how Jan-Hendrik is inspired to execute his award-winning culinary creations.
“Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen is one of South Africa’s exports that fills us with pride. It is a great honour to be able to explore his inner world through the camera lens,” says Izelle Venter, VIA’s channel head. “Guests at my restaurant should not only say they enjoyed eating there – they must say they had a great experience. The same goes for the series: we are taking the viewers on a visual and sensory journey. If viewers feel that the programme was an experience for them as well, then we have done good work,” says Jan-Hendrik, on a trip to SA for the launch of his show.
Each episode will end with a spectacular dish inspired by the episode’s characters and ingredients – usually accompanied by a robust South African touch.
