The Asian video-on-demand firm, Iflix, launched its services in Kenya as part of its move to further strengthen the country as an East African hotbed of SVoD services.
Subscribers in Kenya can now sign up for a free trial for a month to the service via Google Play of Apple App Store. The offer will allow users to have access to unlimited TV shows and movies to be streamed live on smart devices, for a whole month. The launch of the service in Kenya fell right after the company announced it acquired a significant amount of funding to expand their services around Africa.
Iflix co-founder and group CEO Mark Britt said, “These new funds will allow us to further execute on our local content strategy and expand our technology and development teams so we can continue to rapidly evolve the iflix service to meet the unique challenges of emerging markets.”
The company’s entry into the Kenyan market continues to disturb the television viewership market, which was first unsettled by the arrival of Netflix and the consequential entry of Showmax and Amazon.
The increased entry of the global entertainment giants signals a departure from the traditional model of the conventional terrestrial, cable or satellite television towards a new on-demand era of choice.
