GBC launches digital transmission centre in Kumasi

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), recently launched its digital channels and ultra-modern digital transmission centre in Kumasi to enable viewers in Ashanti Region to access GTV Sports Plus, GTV Life, GTV Religion, GTV Govern and Obonu TV programmes which are carried by the regional office of the corporation.

During the launch, the Director-General of GBC, Major Albert Don-Chebe (Rtd), announced that three more digital channels would be added to their product line by the end of 2015 and underlined the need for Ghana to fast-track the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting.

The country plans to switch-off all analogue television networks in phases starting the end of 2014. In December 2013, Ghana’s communications regulator, National Communication Authority (NCA), had introduced a standard quality for the set-top boxes (STB) needed for the digital migration and established test laboratories to verify the quality of all STBs in the market.
