After 14 years channel Animal Planet is being picked out and put aside from MultiChoice DStv satellite pay-TV service. On Thursday MultiChoice confirmed that Animal Planet is being removed. By the end of December, the channel will see an end.
The channel started back in 2003 and in December 2015 it was cut and removed from DStv Compact, thus making it only available subscriber of DStv Premium and Compact Plus. Lately, Animal Planet viewers have been seeing a warning advisory (EPG) saying the channel will be stopped on 30 December. MultiChoice will be launching a new channel from Discovery in mid- 2018 with comprising of Discovery’s other animal wildlife content. So, in this case they will be filling the gap with something that Animal Planet viewers will enjoy.
MultiChoice said, “customers will not miss out, as some of the much-loved shows will be available on the other Discovery channels, including shows such as Treehouse Masters, which will move to Discovery Channel, while shows such as Tanked and Insane Pools: Off The Deep End will move to Discovery Family.”
MultiChoice says new carriage deal with Discovery Networks International will include vast contents and extended video-on-demand and Catch Up hours for Discovery portfolio. MultiChoice will also upgrade ID, Discovery Family and TLC Entertainment to High Definition (HD) channels soon.
Yolisa Phahle, CEO: General Entertainment of MultiChoice said, “Our customers love the Discovery Family channels and we are pleased that we could renew this agreement, including offering this world-class content to our customers wherever they are, to watch whenever they are ready.”
