Deutsche Welle calls on Tehran to stop disruption

Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s international broadcaster, has urged Iran’s leaders to end disruption to DW’s operations in the country and “immediately take steps towards more transparency and put an end to censorship.”

The Director General of DW, Peter Limbourg, issued an appeal to the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to take serious action on internet freedom and the disruption of DW’s TV and radio satellite signals.

DW’s Persian website has been blocked in Iran since 2009, even though Iranian users can bypass the internet blockade by using its anti-censorship tool Psiphon. “Over two million users from Iran used the Psiphon software last month to access DW content in Persian, thus getting informed about what’s going on in their own country,” Limbourg said.
