Israeli telco, Cellcom, reportedly plans to launch its television service by August 2014, as per reports. while Cellcom has already invested in the sector for years and is ready for launch, it is held back due Bezeq’s high infrastructure prices.
However, reports suggest that ahead of the launch, the company has expanded its television pilot to more employees and had also ordered new set-top boxes that support HDTV, as the current STBs in the pilot do not support the same.
According to Dataxis December 2013 reports, Israeli telcos, Partner Communications and Cellcom, had added Idan+ transmitters to their cell sites in order to launch digital terrestrial TV (DTT) services in Israel. Cellcom has already installed 14 transmitters while Partner has put up four, and both are working with the transmission provider, Second Authority for Television & Radio (SATR),to maximise national coverage so that the carrier can offer Idan+ channels together with IP content.
