Israeli mobile phone operator, Cellcom, announced the launch of its new internet television service, Cellcom TV, which includes a basic package for NIS 99 (USD 25.3) monthly for television channels and Video on Demand (VOD) services.
“We are entering television because there is a business model, and because we want to preserve our core business,” said Nir Sztern, CEO at Cellcom. “We are tapping into what the Israeli consumer wants today. They want to see new competition and aggressive pricing.”
Israel’s TV market is dominated by two companies- French cable group Altice-owned, HOT, and Bezeq Israel Telecom-owned satellite TV firm, YES. The packages for HOT and YES are priced at about 250 shekels (USD 64) a month.
