CCTV to air local content across Middle East and Africa

CCTV, the Chinese state broadcaster, is all in to expand its international network across the African continent and the Middle East. Chinese content from the CCTV is normally being broadcasted by the China International Communications Company (CICC) which is the commercial arm of China Central TV, will now be available for non-Chinese viewers as well.

Lu Chunguang, president of CICC, commented: “I want to make that content of CCTV localised, and want people to watch it for 5 to 10 minutes a week. Just 15 minutes of watching each means hundreds of millions (of viewer watching time). Chinese like dramas, and we have more than 100,000 TV dramas produced every year”.

According to Chunguang, there are about a million Chinese in Africa and around 500000 present in the Middle East. This thus represent a significant business for investing in these regions.
