Bongo Star Search Season 9 will premiere on StarTimes TV. Bongo Star Search is a reality TV show that aims to find rising artists in Tanzania through auditions, is back after a one-year break. The contenders will have the opportunity to win 50 million Tanzanian shillings ($ 22 000) with part of the money being used to develop and promote the winner’s music career.
The new season was introduced in Dar es Salaam where the competition’s patron and chief judge, Rita Paulsen, declared the search would begin in Mwanza on 22 and 23 September.
Paulsen, declared, “There so many talented young people who are unemployed in Tanzania, because of this, those in the creative industry should strive to empower these young people so that they can better their lives. I thank God that we are doing this again. I would also like thank the sponsor Star Times who have seen the value of this competition.”
Commenting during the launch, Paulsen said the Tanzanian music industry should be taken seriously. “Music, just like any other industry, produces individuals that directly contribute to the growth of our economy. At the moment artists are paying performance fees. So, if we can improve this sector, it would be beneficial to the country.”
Famous performers have participated on Bongo Star Search in the past like Kala Jeremiah, Harmonize, Peter Msechu, Walter Chilambo, Kayumba Juma and Christian Bella.
