In Tunisia, the public television channel Al Wataniya has threatened to no longer cover the national championship football first division. The TV station’s leaders demand that their journalists be protected from the violence that has become commonplace in Tunisian stadiums.
Yesterday, in a match between Etoile Sportive du Sahel (ESS) and Club Africain, the ESS fans, who lost the match, rallied against the arbitration, attacked the platform of press to which they threw stones.
Two journalists from Al Wataniya were injured during this incident. The chain has condemned attacks “become frequent”, and calls for security measures for its journalists.
A meeting has been scheduled with the Tunisian Football Federation to discuss the problem.
