ADN orders 150,000 FTA decoders for Kenya

Kenyan broadcasters, National Media Group (NMG), Royal Media Services (RMS) and Standard Group (SG), have placed orders for 150,000 free-to-air digital converters which will be sold at a one-off price of between KES 2,000 and KES 2,500.

The three broadcasters, under the Africa Digital Network (ADN) consortium, said that 1 million more decoders are expected by the end of March. The consortium controls 87% of the television market and 80% of radio audiences in Kenya.

ADN is currently awaiting a Supreme Court hearing on its application for more frequencies and more time to import set-top boxes and set up the digital broadcasting infrastructure.
